Line Up Your Stations and Apparatus with NERIS

NERIS keeps a list of your department's stations and units. Command Established keeps its own list of your stations and apparatus. After you enroll Command Established in NERIS, you line the two lists up in one place: Settings → NERIS → Stations and apparatus. You don't manage NERIS from your station or apparatus pages.

Most of the work happens the first time. After that, come back here when you add, retire or rename a station or apparatus, and sync again.

What you'll see

As soon as your NERIS Entity ID is saved, Command Established checks NERIS and compares the two lists. Every station and unit ends up in one of these groups:

Group What it means What happens when you sync
Needs your decision Something we can't be sure about: a record that might be one of yours, a record that's different here and in NERIS, or one that isn't found in NERIS. Nothing, until you choose.
In NERIS, not here yet NERIS has it and Command Established doesn't. It's added to Command Established.
Here, not in NERIS yet Command Established has it and NERIS doesn't. It's sent to NERIS.
Matched Same name or designation in both places. The two are linked.
Already linked Already linked to its NERIS record. Nothing.
Left out Records you chose to keep apart. Nothing. They aren't offered again.

Everything outside Needs your decision already has a sensible choice picked, which you can change. Sync with NERIS stays off until every choice is made; the note next to it says how many are left.

Choosing what a NERIS record is

For each station or unit NERIS has, pick one of:

  • Same as… one of your stations or apparatus. Likely matches are listed first, with the reason (same name, similar name, same address, same designation, same type at the same station). You can search for any other record too.
  • Add as a new station (or apparatus) here, when Command Established doesn't have it yet.
  • Leave out of Command Established, when you don't want it here, such as an old station NERIS still lists. Leaving out a station leaves out its units too.

If NERIS and Command Established both have records nothing matched, they may be the same ones under different names (for example, a full official name in NERIS and a short one here). Rather than add one and send the other, which would make two of each, we ask you about all of them.

Records only in Command Established

For each station or apparatus NERIS doesn't have, pick one of:

  • Send to NERIS: it's added to your NERIS entity.
  • Keep here only: it stays in Command Established and is never sent. Use this for placeholders and anything you track but don't register with NERIS. Retired apparatus start as Keep here only.

An apparatus goes to NERIS under its station, so its station has to be in NERIS or be sent in the same sync. If it has no station, choose Assign a station, or keep it here only.

When a record is different in the two places

If a linked station or apparatus has a different name, address, designation, unit type or staffing in NERIS, you'll see both values side by side. Choose:

  • Keep both as they are (the default). Nothing changes in either place, and you won't be asked again unless one of the values changes. This is right when the difference is on purpose, for example a short station name here and the full official name in NERIS.
  • Update NERIS to match: NERIS gets the values from Command Established.
  • Update here to match NERIS: Command Established gets the values from NERIS.

A NERIS record is only ever changed when you choose Update NERIS to match.

When a record isn't found in NERIS

A station or apparatus that was linked to NERIS can show not found in NERIS, usually because it was deleted in the NERIS portal or because you changed your NERIS Entity ID. Choose Send to NERIS to add it again, or Keep here only.

After you sync

You'll see a summary of what was linked, added and sent, and anything that couldn't be done. Syncing again is always safe: records already linked are left alone, and only what's left is offered. Records you just sent can take a minute to show up in NERIS; if the page says so, choose Check again shortly.

When everything is lined up, the page says so and there's nothing more to do.

Common questions

I added a new apparatus or station. How do I get it into NERIS? Open Settings → NERIS. It's listed under Here, not in NERIS yet. Choose Sync with NERIS.

I renamed or renumbered a rig here. Does NERIS update? It shows up as a difference the next time you open this page. Choose Update NERIS to match, then sync.

How do I bring back something I left out? Open Left out, choose Include again, then choose Sync with NERIS.

Why is Sync with NERIS greyed out? Some choices are still missing. The note next to the button says how many; they're in Needs your decision.

It says "Couldn't check NERIS". Check that Command Established is enrolled in NERIS and that the Entity ID above is right, then try again.

What's not included

  • Your roster. NERIS only knows the people who log in to the NERIS portal, not your members, so there's nothing to import.
  • Past incidents. Incident history in NERIS isn't copied into Command Established.
