No Activity Reports: Telling NERIS About Your Quiet Months
Small departments have months with no calls. That is good news for your community and a problem for your reporting, because to NERIS a month with no incidents and no word from you looks the same as a department that stopped reporting. NERIS solves this with a No Activity Report: a one-line statement that your department ran no incidents in a given month.
Command Established files these for you. You do not need to log in to the NERIS portal.
Where to Find It
Open Settings → NERIS and scroll to No Activity Reports. You need to be an admin of the department, and the department needs its NERIS Entity ID saved at the top of the same page.
The table lists your recent completed months. For each one it shows how many incidents Command Established holds for that month and what NERIS has on file:
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Needs a report | The month is over, you ran no calls, and nothing is filed. | Click File report. |
| No activity report filed | NERIS has the month on record. | Nothing. |
| Incidents reported | You ran calls that month, so no report is needed. | Submit the incidents themselves. |
| Report contradicts incidents | NERIS holds a No Activity Report, but you now have incidents in that month. | Click Withdraw report. |
The table shows the last twelve months. Show every month since January 2025 expands it to every month NERIS accepts a report for.
Filing a Report
Click File report on a month marked Needs a report. The report is sent to NERIS immediately and the row changes to No activity report filed. A line above the table keeps count of how many months still need one, so you can clear a backlog in a few clicks.
Command Established will not file a report for a month that has incidents in it, and it will not file for the month that is still in progress. Nobody can know a month had no activity until it is over.
When NERIS Says No
Sometimes NERIS refuses a report because it already holds incidents for that month. That can happen when another system filed incidents on your behalf, or when a reported incident was later archived here but still exists in NERIS. The message from NERIS is shown as it was received. The fix is to look at what NERIS holds for that month and decide whether those records are right, not to file over them.
NERIS accepts No Activity Reports from January 2025 onward. Earlier months cannot be filed.
Withdrawing a Report
If a report was filed and incidents later turn up for that month, for example a late dispatch import or a call that was entered by hand after the fact, the row changes to Report contradicts incidents. Click Withdraw report and confirm. NERIS then expects the incidents instead, and you submit them as usual.
How the Month Is Counted
Months follow your department's timezone, set under Settings. A call received at 11:50 PM on the last day of the month belongs to that month, even if the units were dispatched after midnight.
An incident that was submitted to NERIS and then archived in Command Established still counts toward its month. NERIS has no way to withdraw a record, so the month is not empty there. An incident that was archived before it was ever submitted does not count.
